When you have decided which VA task you want to specialize on and concentrate on offering, you need to make sure you can offer quality virtual assistant service.
If you would like to start by doing writing tasks, it is essential to be well versed in English and very good at writing compositions or articles. It also helps when you are familiar with various topics and does not limit your boundaries only to a few subjects for writing. Most popular topics would be home employment, latest gadgets, health, web development, online businesses, real estate, food, advertising, among others. The more topics you are familiar with or have interest in, the better for you. Some clients may want to pay his Virtual Assistant on a per-work basis. So the more write ups or articles, the better compensations.
Another advantage of having knowledge in different topics is that it increases your marketability. When you are applying to be a Virtual Assistant to do mostly writing jobs, most likely you will be asked to write about a given topic to test your skills. When you already have knowledge and interest in the topic given to you, you can write better.
If you are more interested in doing transcription, you must make sure you’re typing skills is above average if not excellent. You also must be a good listener for audio transcription. You may practice by transcribing any audio file you have or can download and see how you will fare. Most clients are very sensitive about accuracy and turn around time.
If administrative tasks such as data entry, research, sending emails and posting ads online are what you are planning to offer, make sure you are well experienced in these tasks. How? You can be an assistant to yourself first. You can post ads advertising your services to gain experience in posting ads. You can do data entry, research and sending emails for yourself by looking up good websites or places where you can find virtual assistant jobs, compile them into a spreadsheet, gather their information and send your letter of application as Virtual Assistant.
If you think your expertise or forte is call support, you need to make sure you sound good over the phone and know the proper phone manners. Doing phone calls for clients is more financially rewarding in most cases. If you can also do outbound calls to generate leads and set appointments, the better compensation for you.
So how can you be an effective Virtual Assistant in your chosen task? You can sharpen your skills and experience by doing small and simple tasks first. As you gain experience, you can set your rates. If you have the experience, it makes you more in-demand.
