Tuesday, April 13, 2010 , Posted by Yvhes P. at 1:15 AM

Some people say you need to have a relevant experience being an executive assistant for business owners and managers before you can work at home as a Virtual Assistant. While it is partly true, not all need to have this experience to become a VA. Like I mentioned in my previous posts, there are variety of virtual assistant tasks that you do not need experience for.

You can gain experience while starting to work at home through simple tasks such as writing, data entry and research and encoding or typing. Along the way you begin to do more challenging tasks such as transcription, database management, email handling and support, call support and social network management. When you become more confident, experienced and your online presence have gradually increased, you might be able to do tougher but more financially rewarding tasks such as bookkeeping, web development, web design, search engine optimization, appointment setting and sales, etc.

Speaking of online presence, this is very important when you’re starting to work at home. Ask yourself what you want to focus on. Is it writing? Call support? Email support? Web designing? SEO? Data entry? Or any administrative tasks? You need to assess your own strength and interests of course that will help you decide which VA tasks you want to specialize on. Makes sense, right?

When you have found out the tasks you want to focus and specialize on, get to know all the resources that will make you a good service provider for that type of VA task. How? Stay tuned for next posts.
