How blogging can help a Virtual Assistant

Tuesday, April 13, 2010 , Posted by Yvhes P. at 12:12 AM

Did you know that there are hundreds of thousands of Virtual Assistants competing for virtual assistant jobs? That is a lot of number to compete with if you are just starting as a VA. If you think it will be hard for you to get clients considering this many VAs already established themselves in the marketplaces, well, you thought wrong.

There are ways how you can get noticed over other Virtual Assistants who are in the business longer than you are. Although this is no longer a secret, I can assure you not every VA is doing the right thing in establishing their virtual assistant businesses and that only a few are doing what I am about to reveal to you.

If you are a Virtual Assistant or just a starter, you better do blogging on the side. You may not be good at setting up your own website, but I am sure you can write or put anything on blog. You can start your own blog using blogger.com. It is very easy to set up one.

What do I need to put on the blog and how can it help my virtual assistant website? Good question. Not a lot of people understand the many advantages a blog can give them. Some people think it is only used to promote a product, or to earn money through adsense. Some say they do blogging to express themselves in writing and no other purposes. Honestly, I blog for all those mentioned purposes. I blog to promote a product I am selling, earn money through my blog ads, express my feelings and help other people start their own virtual assistant business.

When I said I blog to promote a product I am selling, you may wonder what product it is. Well, it is not the typical selling of a product online. What I sell is myself, not literally though. I sell my virtual assistant services. I blog to write about anything that can help clients find me. I do not only find clients, I also do something to make them find me. How? Through my blogs.

If you have been working as a Virtual Assistant for quite a while but still struggling to find clients, then you better start getting yourself a blog. Write anything about your services. You can post previous clients' testimonials about your services. You can tell your success stories as a Virtual Admin Assistant. You can also provide information to those wanting to be in the same business. By helping others, you are showing people that you are an expert in this field. Most clients prefer to hire the pros than starters, always remember that.

When you blog, you need to use proper keywords for search engine purposes. You also need to optimize it for better page ranking on search engines. You can also share your blog with your friends on twitter, facebook, myspace, linkedin and other social networking sites. If you don't have much friends or social network accounts, you need to. It is not yet too late. Another good way to promote your blog and eventually your services is by joining forums and using your blog URL as your signature. You can also write articles and submit to various article directories while putting you blog URL in the resource box using proper anchor texts (keywords).

You may not understand well these search engine optimization (SEO) terms and methods right away. Don't worry, I used to be like you. But I researched on it, read many articles about SEO and other ways I can get my blog noticed. When you search on Google with the keywords "how to find clients for virtual asistant" a couple of months ago, the result would not show my page even in the first 1000 pages. Now is a different story. There was so little chance my blog can get noticed when it was in the 1000th page. After a month of work, try to search on google with the same keywords, you can now find my blog in the 2nd page. Amazing, isn't it?

There was one movie with a line "if you build it , they will come". That is absolutely true about getting clients for virtual assistant. If you build a blog with good quality contents promoting your services or just simply telling stories about you as a Virtual Assistant, clients will eventually find you.
